About CBI Web Services

Your goal is to have an affordable website you can be proud of, whether it's a personal site, a non-profit organization, or a business website that is both competitive and accurately portrays the professionalism of your company.

My goal is to build it for you.

Established: April 1999

Location: Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada

History

In October 1998, I sat down at a computer to get on the Web for the very first time. It was at the local library, and when I asked the librarian to show me how to get on the Internet, she said, "See that big blue E on the screen? Click it twice and you're in."

That was it. That was my education on how to use the Worldwide Web. The rest was up to me, and after a few months of library and cyber café visits, I bought my first computer in March 1999, and began learning the magic code that produces websites.

In April 1999, under the name CBI Web Design, I began creating and helping to create websites for local businesses and individuals. The name comes from the place I've called home since 1986 – Cape Breton Island – located at the top of Nova Scotia, Canada.

By 2002 I had added more staff, and we expanded internationally when we were contracted by the U.S. software company Free Peers, Inc. to be their exclusive webmasters.

When Free Peers ceased operations in 2006, CBI Web Design landed further contracts in the U.S. and Europe.

In 2008, drawing on years of experience with other pursuits of myself and the staff, CBI Web Design changed its name to CBI Web Services; the goal being to expand its portfolio to offer more than website design to consumers. Related services such as copywriting, editing & proofreading were added, as well as product-focused marketing opportunities.

We continued successfully in this direction for a couple years until the web design market began changing due to the increase in DIY website services. In July 2011, with the staff and myself wanting to pursue other interests, CBI Web Services scaled back to simply maintaining the sites we had built for clients, and began the process of finding new homes for those clients.

From 2011 to 2017 I was once again a solo act, and continued to maintain two sites for long-time clients. When they closed their sites, I closed CBI Web indefinitely.

In 2019 I started working with a group of people who needed help with their Facebook group, and soon they asked for help on a website they were working on. For the rest of that year and right through 2020 I was very active in helping them. In the meantime, a former client started talking about starting another website, and asked if I would build it. How could I refuse? :-)

2021 – since I seem to be headed back toward this business, I decided to reopen CBI Web Services, and see where it goes.
However you got here, I'm glad you did, and if you're thinking about having a website, I hope to be of service to you soon. In time I will have more information on the site to help you discover what I can do for you. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you have.

Hope to hear from you soon!
